GSA

This school semester will mean one very important thing- 2 years of being in GSA! GSA is gay straight alliance, and one of the most wonderful things I have been a part of.  GSA focuses on being a safe haven for people, and for the most part is home to LGBT students.
What makes GSA strong, however, is it's allies.  People who aren't gay but show up every week and by doing so say "I'm not gay, but hell yeah i'll support you, and your right to be yourself".  Allies are the rocks of GSA.  They feel the hate crimes just as personally, and protest alongside us with as much ferocity. They spread acceptance one person at a time, and when we're in trouble they have a special skill- they are viewed as "normal".  They can stand up and argue for us when the world has made us ashamed of who we are, and back us up when we're sick of being outcast.
Allies, you are the most important part of GSA.
You are the people who don't have to be there, don't have to defend yourself and your choices, but you show up nonetheless.
Thank you.

GSA is wonderful, and aside from being a place to prepare for GLSEN events, it's a place to just have fun.  Our GSA is 20% outreach, 80% hanging out.  GSA makes it normal for LGBT and straight kids to hang out- the reason why it exists.  We have potlucks, parties, crafts, talks- serious and fun, games, and sometimes we just sit and do homework.  It's the ultimate safe place, because it doesn't feel like a safe place. It just feels like how everywhere should feel.  It takes almost no time each week, it's crazy fun, and it makes a huge difference.

I dunno, I think it seems obvious why you should join GSA
:P
